Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich) won the first Korean Derby in 13 years against Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain).
Munich (Germany) beat PSG (France) 1-0 in the fifth home game of the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League (UCL) phase at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany on the 27th (Korea time).
Munich, which won the match, elevated its ranking to 11th with three wins and two losses (nine points). On the other hand, PSG failed to win points for the fifth time, making it highly unlikely to advance to the round of 16.
The match drew more attention as the “Korean Derby” between Kim Min-jae and Lee Kang-in was held while the two teams representing the German Bundesliga and the French League 1 met.
It is the first time in 13 years that the Korean Derby has unfolded at the UCL since the showdown between Park Ji-sung (then Manchester United) and Park Joo-ho (then FC Basel) in the 2011-2012 season. However, Kim Min-jae started as the starting pitcher and Lee Kang-in started the game from the bench.
Munich opened the door first. Leading the mood in the early stages of the first half, the team had Jamal Musiala’s powerful right footed shot in the seventh minute of the first half but was blocked by goalkeeper Matvei Saponov.
In the 29th minute of the first half, 이브벳 PSG shot Fabian Lewis’ sharp cross from inside the penalty box, but failed to reach the goal. Three minutes later, Usman Dembele’s left footed shot was caught by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
It was Munich who opened the goal after exchanging attacks, and the main character was Kim Min-jae. Munich took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute of the first half when Kim Min-jae shook the net with a header of the ball that goalkeeper Safonov failed to clear properly.
With the score, Kim scored his first career UCL goal in celebration from his teammates.
PSG faced unexpected variables to counterattack amid Munich’s lead. In the 11th minute of the second half, Dembele attempted a belated tackle by Alfonso Davis, who was trying to clear the ball, and the referee was sent off due to accumulated warnings.
Then, PSG coach Luis Enrique tried to change by excluding Zaire Emery and putting Lee Kang-in in the 20th minute of the second half. However, Munich’s offensive, which had the advantage in numbers, continued, and as the game ended without an additional goal, Kim Min-jae became the main player of the victory.
